Iridium Spark Plugs for 7MGTE / 1GGTE
Iridium Spark plugs are a new generation of plug designed to replace the more regular platinum plugs used as standard on most Japanese engines. Iridium is claimed to be 6 times harder and 8 times stronger than platinum, allowing for a finer electrode which lasts longer and requires less voltage therefore producing a hotter spark. For extreme turbo applications the hotter spark and colder plug combination are very desirable attributes.
Replacement guide:
Manufacturer | Stock Platinum | Replacement Iridium |
Nippon Denso (available from Toyota) | NQ20 | IQ20 |
NGK | BCPR6EPN-8 | BKR6EIX-11 |
Note: NGK Iridiums require a small amount of re-gapping to suit the 7M/1G. Given the electrode on these plugs is extremely fine, be sure to take a lot of care not to damage it when gapping.
