VTEC is a 2-setting cam, basically 2 different cams. It can change duration, lift, etc, but only 2 settings.
VVT is a variable cam, it can change cam timing, duration, etc. but not lift, it is completely variable, not 2 setting.
all modern(er) systems are VVT-like, VTEC was a much earlier type of system.
